Four poets and a poetic book about the bush

The Sydney Writers’ Festival is done and dusted for another year but you can find lasting traces (in the form of photos and grabs) on A Bigger Brighter World’s Facebook page.

You’ll find Don Watson speaking with Eleanor Hall about his book The Bush: Travels in the Heart of Australia, a poetic tour de force, celebrating the outback and filled with a rich sense of wonder.

You’ll also find Kate Fagan—poet, songwriter, musician, lecturer in Literary Studies and author of First Light—chairing three of the world’s most distinguished poets—Ben Okri, Les Murray and David Malouf—in what was for many a rare and unforgettable performance.

Okri—whose new volume Wild has been described as a dreamlike collection that asks its audience to embrace a sense of chaos and reconnect with the stars—read from An African Elegy.

Murray, whose Waiting for the Past continues his renowned mastery of molten language, read from The 100 Best Poems of Les Murray.

Malouf read from Earth Hour, an elegant and witty exploration of memory, imagination and mortality.

Highlights from the festival can be found on ABC Radio National’s website.
