It’s a bigger blogging world!

So you’ve read every review and interview on A Bigger Brighter World, you’ve gone on to read some of the recommendations and wonder what else is out there in literary blogworld … but you shudder in trepidation at the blogjam that awaits.

There are a great many book blogs out there. Here are some, mostly Australian, points of departure.

Winner of the Australian Writers’ Centre’s The Best Australian Blogs Competition 2013 for Words and Writing was Read in a Single Sitting.

The award was “For those who are blogging mostly about their writing experiences, book reviews, publishing, self-publishing, epublishing, book design, book publicity, and author blogs.”

The judge said, “I found Read in a Single Sitting really thoughtful, diverse in content, accessible and well designed. You can see the passion that goes into it, without screaming, ‘I’m passionate!’”

Finalists in the category included Alpha Reader, Book to the Future, CheeseburgerGothic, and Lives of the Poets.

Book to the Future’s Michelle McLaren last month wrote a long post about her experience at the Sydney Writers’ Festival. She also wrote a most favourable review of Kirsten Krauth’s just_a_girl  for Newtown Review of Books.

Story Cartel conducted a survey from which it judged these as the top ten book blogs for 2013.

The Top 10 Blogs for Book Lovers

There are many newspaper book blogs. For instance, The Guardian has a books blog, as does the Paris Review. The Australian has A Pair of Ragged Claws.

Derek Attig’s Book Mobility: Information in Motion is worth a visit.

Online bookstore Booktopia has a blog as do regular bookstores like Abbeys (not often updated) and Readings. Jon Page, General Manager of Pages & Pages in Mosman, NSW, blogs at Bite the Book.

The Blog Chicks Australian Women Bloggers Directory showcases wonderfully talented women bloggers in Australia from a wide range of niches.

It would be foolish to think anyone could compile a complete list book blogs but one site professes to have put together the ultimate list. Blog Rank ranks the top book blogs on the internet and compiles them in different lists based on the ranking methods used — the Ultimate Rank, RSS membership, unique monthly visitors, pages per visit, Yahoo and Google ranking, and more.

Perhaps one day A Bigger Brighter World will get a mention!
