Re-gift the gift of reading

“When you share a book, you’re sharing more than just pages of paper and ink. You’re sharing the opportunity to learn, discover and feel cared for.”

The Footpath Library donates near-new and new books to homeless and marginalised people.

Its vision is to enrich the quality of life for homeless and disadvantaged people and promote a society that is well informed about homelessness.

The Footpath Library believes books can connect the community with homeless and disadvantaged people and that through books its volunteers, book donators and supporters can create a sense of belonging and conversation with its clients.

The library encourages literacy and connection by making quality books accessible to homeless and disadvantaged people. Its key objectives are:

  • To enrich the lives of homeless and disadvantaged people;
  • To increase literacy amongst homeless and disadvantaged people;
  • To make free books available to homeless and disadvantaged people;
  • To operate accessible libraries that stock quality, relevant books; and
  • To raise awareness and understanding about homelessness.

Mailbooks For Good is an innovation in book publishing, which allows people to donate books directly to those who need it.

When the books are finished, readers simply turn the covers inside out and the books become pre-paid and pre-addressed packages. Once posted they are sent directly to The Footpath Library for distribution to those in need.

Mailbooks For Good has been designed to easily fit with almost any book. It is currently pending global patent and is available for partnership with literacy charities worldwide.

Released in partnership with Random House, the current range of Mailbooks For Good is available at Gleebooks bookstores in Sydney, Australia.
